Nowadays, when hundreds of new albums are released every month, it is getting very hard to choose just some of them to buy. Most of the people cannot buy everything that is released, so they choose just some, released by the most famous artists. Young, unknown artists are being forgotten. During this technological era to buy an album blindfolded is foolish. And here we stand – providing you, the users, a possibility to hear-out thousands of albums and buy the liked ones.

We are strictly against piracy and illegal music disposal on the internet, so you won’t find any downloadable music in Music Archive - everything is just for the on-line listening.


The Project:

Probably the main point of attraction in www.dsrock.lt is the Music Archive and it did not emerge instantly. The very first beginning of it was discussions with current StartFM executive Andrius Valašinas about the horrific condition of nowadays musical space and huge amounts of music being downloaded illegally. There the idea of interactive radio station was born. Fundamentally it should have given user an opportunity to familiarize with an album before buying it. The idea gradually developed in our minds until we got financial support from the Europe Union programme “Youth” and the Music Archive was created which is the base of our project.

The prime goal of this project is to give every user a chance not to buy preferred album in the dark, also broaden his musical view and moreover, to provide possibilities for young performers to get on display.

Now you can choose from thousands of songs to listen from our Music Archive. And it is totally legal!

About us: The very first beginning was in the late autumn during the year 2004 when a few friends decided to create an internet radio station because during that period of time there were no places to listen to the music which they liked. Indistinctively the radio station got DsRock name which somehow reflected the genre of the music which was played. The start was very amateurish but with increasing popularity among young people our thoughts about the project got more and more serious. A new website was created which had discussion forum, song request, top played lists and etc. When, we decided to establish Public Office “The Centre Of Youth’s Alternative Culture” and by doing this we hoped to raise some money for the legalization and future development. At the beginning being illegal by the June, 2006 our radio station was legimated and legalized. We are very grateful to everyone who donated 2% of their paid taxes and helped us to legalize. During the same year we broaden our activity to the organization of the trips to huge festivals and concerts in foreign countries. Journeys to Metallica’s performance in Estonia and Wacken Open Air 2006 in Germany were organized. Success inspired us to continue our work. Later, during the discussions with current StartFM executive Andrius Valašinas the idea of interactive radio station was born. We hope to keep our work in progress. \m/.
